A pluton refers to a body of magma that has risen from great depths and solidified within other extant bodies of rock before being eroded to the surface. In these self-portraits, the contorted, passive positions of the figure suggest those of interred victims of volcanic eruption. Juxtaposed beneath natural outcroppings of bedrock, the victim is reimagined as an igneous intrusion which has cooled and crystallized over thousands of years within the Earth's crust, unbeknownst to the world above.
